The original G4NC engine is known for oil consumption issues, largely caused by low-tension piston rings combined with the demanding nature of the Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) system. With higher combustion temperatures and pressures than earlier multi-port designs, the GDI layout places extra stress on piston rings and engine oil, which can lead to accelerated oil breakdown and carbon buildup.
Built with an enhanced oil ring design and improved piston oil drain-back, our engines are designed to reduce the likelihood of premature wear and excessive oil consumption. Combined with 7,500–10,000 km service intervals and quality full-synthetic low-ash oil, this maintenance approach helps support long-term engine reliability.
